Sublime moments #3: Cruising the Nile, Egypt

My trip to Egypt in 2011 (just before the Arab Dawn) was an eye-opener in many respects. I’ of course, had come to see the wealth of ancient wonders but was blown away by the culture and the food. As far as experiences go, it goes without saying that seeing the pyramids, sphinx and Abu Simbel were highlights. But one of the most pleasant experiences I had was the cruise up the Nile from Aswan to Luxor. It was sublime. The temperature was just right, the service impeccable and the gentle cruise past palm trees, feluccas, ancient temples and Egyptian fishermen just added to a truly exceptional experience. On one particular day I retired to my cabin having had enough sun only to be greeted by a fresh bowl of fruit and a massive window to watch the passing scenery. It may sound a cliché but I cannot recommend the experience highly enough.
